The Malnad Ultra
Event information
Probably the most internationally recognised race in the circuit, Malnad Ultra is conducted in Karnataka's coffee-growing highlands. The event is part of the Asia Trail Masters circuit and serves as a qualifier for the Western States Endurance Run.
The race combines highly runnable sections with steep climbs. Participants move through mist-covered plantations, rainforest patches, and classic Malnad landscapes. Elevation sits between roughly 800–1,500 metres. The volunteer support and race organisation are frequently praised by the Indian trail-running community.

A sprawling working plantation where the cottages sit among the coffee and pepper rows. Caretaker on call, estate coffee on tap, and a private waterfall on the land. It feels less like a hotel and more like a race camp in the hills, which is exactly the point the night before an ultra.

All three meals are cooked in-house, veg and non-veg. The hosts are known for looking after people personally, which matters when you are up at 4 a.m. on race morning.
